How can I create several PDF reports for a workshop?
Cascade can create custom PDF reports for each person in a team or for a workshop. This a massive time-saving feature requiring the Bonus Pack.
Due to the complexity of the coding and limitations with older versions of Office, this feature does not run on Office 2011 for Mac.
There are two parts, the setting up of the folder and the creation of the PDF files. Scroll to the bottom of the Select Name page to see this panel.
Refer to your computer type and Office version for specific set up instructions. Once set up, Cascade will remember these settings.
Windows with Office 2010, 2013, 2016 or 2019
Click on Insert Path to provide the current folder location of your Cascade file. It will insert something like
If you have separate folders for each customer, add the name of the sub-folder. For example
Do not include any special characters in the path like !ӣ$%^&*()@~#
Click on the Test Path button to check that the path is valid and it is possible to create PDFs. The procedure creates a small test PDF in the chosen folder, then deletes it.
Mac with Office 2016 or 2019
If you have Mac Mojave, see the article for additional information.
Security features in Office 2016 and 2019 for Mac only allow automatic processes to save files in a specific folder. It is not possible to save files automatically to your Desktop. Click on Insert Path and the folder ‘/Users/username/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/Cascade/’ appears as the path. For neatness, there is the addition of the Cascade folder to separate the Cascade files from any other applications.
If you have several big customers, you may want to create additional sub-folders. You can add the sub-folder name onto the path in the yellow box. Click on Test Path and Cascade will create the folder if it does not already exist. Do not include any special characters in the path like !ӣ$%^&*()@~#
How to View the Folder
To locate the folder, in Finder select Go then Go to Folder. Paste in the long path shown in Cascade.
Another option is to click on Go at the top menu then choose Library. Find the Group Containers folder, then UBF8T346G9.Office, then Cascade.
Place an Alias on the Desktop
To quickly access the folder in the future, create an Alias (shortcut) on the Desktop.
In Finder, right-click on the Cascade folder to create an Alias. Copy and paste the Alias to the Desktop.
Office 2011 for Mac is no longer supported by Microsoft and the different code set causes unreliable results when creating PDFs.
If you are running Mac Mojave, see the article to navigate the additional security features here.
Creating the PDF Files
At the top of the Select Name screen, click the All to PDF button for your chosen report.
Cascade will ask if you want to create a PDF file of the report for each person visible in the team Grid. Click on Yes.
You can then specify a sub-folder location to save the files in a separate folder, away from any other files. This is optional.
Cascade will then create a PDF file for each person in the folder you specified.
In Windows, it will ask if you want to open the folder containing the PDF files.
On a Mac you will need to browse to the folder through Finder. This is where an Alias on the Desktop will help.
Check the reports
During the PDF creation process, you should see the report move through the names as it generates each PDF file. Do check that the name of the PDF file is the same as the name in the report. On much older and very slow computers, the screen does not have time to display the next report before the PDF file is made. If this happens, set the delay to 1 or 2 seconds. Alternatively, consider investing in a new computer. The delay feature is available from version 2.0r02d onwards.
